April Lockhart
April Lockhart was born on July 4th, 1995. in seventh grade. She began playing guitar and taking piano lessons which ignited her interest in writing songs. April's first song was Different. She wrote it at 12 years of age. When she was 14, April devoted much of her time to creating and playing with songs. She started writing songs with her dad and her dad in NY and LA shortly after. April also included additional topics in her song, Take my Hand. These topics included topics for her friends who dealt issues like peer pressure, disabilities or even teen suicidal ideas. Lockhart is a popular figure and works as an online lifestyle blogger for the well-known Ilia Clean Beauty brand. The disability she has is part of her persona, however it's not the entire picture. Lockhart's Instagram page doesn't overlook her handicap. But it also doesn't insist on the issue. The message? That we all contain multitudes that our identities are complex and we're greater than the physical person we are. Lockhart tells Lockhart via video "I don't think that should define me. It's not my intention to be an influencer on disabilities because I've got plenty to offer." However, it doesn't affect my everyday routine. I do the normal things and have adapted to my disabilities. This is a major part of my life, so it is important to talk about the subject. Her journey to self-acceptance will be one that lasts a lifetime, but she has been a source of inspiration with regard to this. Lockhart admits to having been through a series of phases regarding her appearance, feeling insecure at times to wear outfits that showcased her arms. She now wears any outfit she likes and uploads photos on Facebook in awe. The key to self-love for her is that it's not a place to go. That's true of everyone regardless of the level of insecurity. It's my opinion that having those with you who know you and see your feelings is crucial as they'll be the ones that remind you of what are you concerned about?
